Background

The International Pre-School was the first of its kind in St. Petersburg, originally founded back in 1993 under the auspices of the US Consulate, to provide care for the children of diplomatic families based in St. Petersburg. Over the years, the Pre-School has evolved to provide an early-years experience for children from both the diplomatic and the foreign business communities. The teaching staff have been working at the Pre-School since 1993.

Over these years, children from 26 different countries have attended the Pre-School. The Pre-School’s current students include children from the USA, the UK, Germany, India, Turkey, Poland and Korea.

Governing principles

We encourage close parental involvement not only on the Parent Governing Board which determines our overall policies, but also on a day-to-day basis. Parents are always welcome to “drop in” and join in the day’s activities.

In this way, we minimize our costs and can keep tuition fees low. Our fees are in fact the lowest of all the international pre-school programmes currently available in St. Petersburg.

The Pre-School has close links to the Anglo-American School and other international schools operating in St. Petersburg, where many former Pre-School students now study.

Parent-teacher conferences are held at regular intervals over the course of the academic year to keep parents informed of their child’s progress and performance.

Our curriculum

Our educational programme has been designed to prepare young children for later academic success.

For small children, meaningful learning requires active thought processes and experimenting to find out how things work. The best way of accomplishing this is through play supported by teaching practices.

Our children participate in special courses, including music, rhythm and dance, and art. We also have field trips once a month to museums, theatres and the zoo.

An employee of the St. Petersburg Zoo visits our group once a month with a selection of small animals from the Zoo for our children to handle and pet. The Science Programme sees fascinating age-appropriate experiments performed for and explained to the children.

Daily outdoor play is provided each day in the school’s courtyard playground.
